Why are you doing this?

At Roots and Rock we’re always looking for both new listeners, kindred spirits with a love for the same kinds of music as we do, and new artists and music to love and to share. So we’ve looked for a way to grow that organically (and maybe speed it up just a little).

What does it mean, a Tree Of Music?

Well… we assume you are familiar with what a tree is?! We try to replicate one in a special way. Let’s say the music we love are our roots… And we could call our radioshow Roots ‘N Rock the stem. If we would grow branches, that would grow branches themselves, that would grow branches as well…etc… then we’d end up with something that might look like a tree.

So who are those branches, if Roots ‘N Rock is the stem?

We asked some regular listeners to the show to be the first branches of our tree. These listeners, our first branches, might know other people with a similar musical interest and they can invite them to be a branch on their branch. Those new branches can in turn grow branches as well, people they’ll invite…. So it’s an organically growing network of music enthousiasts.

I understand The Tree and branches-part… but where’s the music in this idea?

Good point. When people are asked to be a branch in our Tree Of Music, they are also asked to name a song, that’s quintessential to their musical taste and send the name of the artist and title of that song to Roots ‘N Rock. We will publish that on our Tree Of Music page and, if we like the song, we’ll play it in our show. This way we hope to end up with quite an interesting list of songs originating from our tree.

Is that all?

Almost. When a branch grows more and more branches, with branches on those branches as well, it’s obvious that those branches need to grow bigger. So when a new branch sprouts somewhere on our tree, a new person sending us a song they love, all branches that that sprout originated from gain the opportunity to thicken up: they are allowed to send an additional song to our Tree (that might be played on the show). So if the branch you started proves to be a very fertile one, you are given the opportunity to share more of your musical taste.

Isn’t that a lot of hassle?

We don’t think so. We made you a short form where you need to do not much more than fill in the branch you sprout from (the person who sent you the invitation) and the song you want to ‘hang’ in our tree and press ‘send’. Now all that’s left is to forward the invitation to some of your music loving friends, family members or colleagues. That’s it. If your branch ‘thickens’ we send you an email that will allow you to send in another song. That’s it.

But again: why?

Because we think it’s fun. If you are a music lover, with the same greedy musical appetite as we have, you are always desperately curious about finding new music. This is just another way of doing so.

So what do I do now?

Just fill out the form and send on your invitation to whomever you like to widen your own branch on our tree.
