‘Empty Pockets’ is the second album of this band from The Netherlands and wille be released on October 20th, followed by a club tour
“Moving On” is the first single from Them Dirty Dimes’ forthcoming new album. The song illustrates the development that the band from Groningen has gone through since debut album ‘In Gold We Trust’ (2021): while previously it mainly drew on the pre-war overseas musical heritage, on ‘Empty Pockets’ the sound has been broadened with other influences. “For ‘Moving On’, the band wanted to capture the feel of ‘Exile on Main Street’ by The Rolling Stones in the studio, including sleazy guitar and fat horns. Tired from a long studio day and under the adrenaline of the pressure of time, they became a nice and clumsy Mick, sloppy Keith and coked-up Charlie for a while”, band member and songwriter Johan Stolk explains. ‘Empty Pockets’ will be released on October 20. Before and after that time several club and festival shows are on the agenda.
After the well-received debut album ‘In Gold We Trust’ (2021), childhood friends Gijs de Groot and Johan Stolk have played the blisters on their fingers with Them Dirty Dimes. As an alternative to their album tour, which was canceled by corona, they visited more than 70 crowdfunders to play on their doorstep. They subsequently became one of the most booked Popronde acts and performed at festivals such as Rotterdam Bluegrass Festival, Stadspark Live and TakeRoot.
In collaboration with producer Bernard Gepken (Daniël Lohues, Tangarine, Rob Dekay) and Frans Hagenaars (Excelsior Recordings) they have tried to capture the inspiration and energy that characterizes their live shows on the new album. Surrounded by a team of the best studio musicians, the songs were played live in the studio. It has made ‘Empty Pockets’ an album with eleven strong songs with the live feel of Springsteen’s ‘Seeger Sessions’. A record that is not only musically correct, but where, in good Americana tradition, a lot of attention has also been paid to the lyrics. A few more songs will be revealed in the run-up to the release.
